Abercrombie & Fitch has offered Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino from MTV’s Jersey Shore a reportedly substantial fashion deal, according to WWD. But, it probably isn’t what you think. The chain retailer is offering The Situation big bucks to NOT wear the brand. Why, you ask? An undesired brand image.
Here is what the company is saying on its website:
“We are deeply concerned that Mr. Sorrentino’s association with our brand could cause significant damage to our image. We understand that the show is for entertainment purposes, but believe this association is contrary to the aspirational nature of our brand, and may be distressing to many of our fans.” In a statement released by the A& F Brand Senses Department mentions that they would like Mikey S. to wear alternate brands and that “We have also extended this offer to other members of the cast, and are urgently waiting a response.” What do you think? A publicity stunt by A&F to gain more press? Do you think it is a fair request?
