Listen up all of you brides-to-be! Recently, I had the opportunity to attend the Soolip Wedding Press Preview at the St. Pucchi Flagship Store in Sunset Plaza where I learned about key wedding trends and how to plan and execute the perfect wedding.
The expert panel included caterer Pauline Parry from Good Gracious! Events; wedding planner David Pressman from David Pressman Events; Rani Totman the owner and designer of St. Pucchi; jeweler Nelson Holdo from Black, Starr & Frost; and event designer Rrivre Davies of Rrivre Works and was moderated by Wanda Wen, the founder of Soolip. Surrounded by all of the beautiful and intricately designed wedding gowns, I have to say that the highlight for me was passing around a gorgeous $1.1 million canary yellow diamond engagement ring. I am such a jewelry junkie!
Some interesting facts about weddings that I discovered included that engaged couples are opting for more cocktail-style wedding than ever before, choosing to forgo more formal sit-down dinners and that the trend is going away from “vintage” weddings, i.e. serving drinks in mason jars and sitting on bails of hay, and going toward very individual celebrations based on the personalities of the couples themselves. As for jewelry, the diamond still remains the number one choice for engagements rings, but if one wanted to do colored stones, rubies and sapphires are at the top of the list because of their textures and durability.
On the fashion front, what’s on-trend right now for wedding dresses are sleeves, illusion necklines and even colors like lilac and butterscotch. Said Totman, “Brides are ready for something different.” As for grooms, men tend to wear their wedding clothes (suits, tuxes, shoes, cufflinks and ties) over and over again, so they should choose pieces which reflect their personal style and they shouldn’t be afraid to mix-and-match their wedding wardrobe with more casual pieces like jeans, more casual pants, T-shirts and loafers so they get more use out of them. Wen, a celebrity stationer, often asks the bride about her favorite fashion designer, as that can dictate not only the look and feel of the invitations, but also the wedding itself.
And lighting, even though it seems like a second thought compared to all other wedding details, can truly transform an event and usually is recommended by a good wedding planner. But the most important tip of the day for couples in search of their perfect wedding day is know your budget. Because that can save both money and time in the long run. Best of luck to creating your dream wedding day!
