Last week, I spotlighted the Taiji Dolphin Hunt in Japan on the Red Alert. This week I wanted to give you an update from the Sea Shepherds, who are on the ground in that cove surveying the devastation. They estimate that last week, around 176 dolphins have been slaughtered for human consumption and 24 have been captured to live their lives in aquariums around the world.
It’s very tragic and cruel, and dolphin meat is extremely unsafe for human consumption because of the high mercury levels. Yet, the Japanese government continues to defend this barbaric practice, which is expected to continue through the spring.
