In the world of celebrity style, I often find myself asking Hollywood starlets-like the Jennifers, Jessicas, and the Brittanys of the red carpet, taste related questions. For example, “who is your favorite shoe designer?” The top 3 answers amongst the fabulous and famous are almost always CLB, Jimmy Choo, and Brian Atwood, in no certain order. Sometimes, I like to inquire about what fashion rules these lovely ladies live by. “Dress for your body, always ask a friend’s opinion, and don’t be a slave to the trends” are some of the answers I have heard, with which I agree. Or even “who is your style icon?” Yes, Jackie O is still popular response, but it always pleases me when I get a reply like “my mother” (sweet) or something unexpected like Mrs. Roper from Three’s Company (yes, I have heard it)…
And, I like to turn the trend tables on the men in Tinsel Town, because you know some of them stressed over similar matters. (OK, maybe more like they sometimes actually give some thought to what they were going to wear?) And so, what better place to ask a group of sharp dressed celebrity men than the The Trevor Project’s “Trevor Live” red carpet at the Hollywood Palladium on Sunday night?
True Blood hottie Joe Manganiello was on top of it when I asked him who his go-to red carpet designer is. Without hesitation he stated, “This suit is Joseph Abboud, the shoes and shirt are John Varvatos, and the tie is Hugo Boss.“ And being that he is well over 6 feet tall and quite broad shouldered (poor thing!), I had to know if he had a problem finding designs that fit his strapping, athletic build? “Not from those (designers). They have that big shouldered, long arm, (smaller) waist type of deal. So, it was tricky finding designers, but all 3 of those designers (work well for me).” And Joe wasn’t the only one who looked good. New father Neil Patrick Harris revealed to me his designer of choice for the red carpet was none other than “Paul Smith.” Good pick!
Meanwhile, a sexy Josh Duhamel joked with me, despite his recent airline incident, that when the affair calls for dressing up he calls his make believe designer “Ruth Bernstein.” Of course, some of the boys had that deer-in-headlights look when asked the question i.e. James Marsden who didn’t have an answer at all. Then you have the brutally honest like Vampire Diaries’ fame Paul Wesley who disclosed while flashing a big smile, “I have no idea. You are asking the wrong guy.” Good thing a nice smile never goes out of style!
