RED ALERT: WEST HOLLYWOOD BAN ON THE SALE OF FUR GOES INTO EFFECT

This Saturday, September 21st will mark the day that West Hollywood’s ban on the sale of fur will go into effect, making it the first city to do so. This means apparel made of fur, fur trim and shearling will no longer be sold in the city, and those who violate this law can receive a citation from WeHo’s Department of Compliance. And if the violator accrues three citations in a calendar year, then he or she can receive a misdemeanor. There will be a 60-90 day period in which the Department will attempt to bring all business up to compliance. The ban doesn’t apply to leather goods, furniture or accessories such as handbags or vintage fur pieces sold at vintage boutiques. Fur Free West Hollywood will host a rally supporting the ban from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sept. 21 in front of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department West Hollywood station on 700 North San Vicente Boulevard.

This is a huge victory for cruelty-free fashion and will certainly raise awareness about this controversial issue. As an animal-lover and fur-free dresser, I am all for the ban. How about you?
