I am woman, here me roar! A group of strong and powerful Hollywood ladies descended upon Hyde lounge this week for the ninth annual Women in Film pre-Oscars party. Actresses such as Alicia Silverstone, LaLa Anthony, Lake Bell, Michelle Monaghan, Kate Flannery, Kate Walsh, Maria Bello and Academy Awards winner Alicia Vikander all came together to show their support for WIF.
As guests sipped delish Perrier-Jouet champagne, one of the key sponsors of the festivities, the speeches of the night kicked off. First was WIF president Cathy Schulman, who led a very special Perrier-Jouet toast, before Patricia Arquette took to the stage.
“This is a story American women go through everyday. Women don’t have fundamental rights in America,” said Oscar winner Arquette. “We have to have actual gender equality in the United States Constitution. Please think about that and think about all the other women who are impacted by not having equal rights. And, also think about these great women like Jennifer Lawrence who are standing up and talking about pay and equality.”
After Patricia’s speech concluded, Schulman asked Jennifer Lawrence to take the stage for a few words. J Law was taken a bit off guard as she wasn’t planning on speaking, but she did declare, “We’re starting a conversation, we’re getting a dialogue going. … I didn’t know I was going to be (speaking). … Equal pay for women!”
