The UCLA Jonsson Cancer Center Foundation’s signature fundraiser, Taste for a Cure, celebrated its 25th anniversary this week with a delicious tasting event that raised funds for cancer research at the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles. 9-1-1: Lone Star’s Rob Lowe and Ken Jeong, panelist on The Masked Singer, co-hosted the festivities. And there was a special performance by Grammy Award-winning artist, Robin Thicke.
On the red carpet, I chatted with Lowe about his co-host, referring to Jeong as a “scene-stealer” joking that “I am going to have to suck it up!” Fresh off chatting with none other than Michael Douglas for the 100th episode of his hit podcast, “Literally!,” he confirmed that he is indeed loving this part of his job. And would he be game to turn his pod into a TV talk show? Watch the video below and find out!
You can also catch Rob on the 3rd season finale of his FOX show 9-1-1: Lone Star on May 16th. “It’s as good as anything I have had a chance to be a part of in terms of drama and action.” He continued, “I am a lucky boy at the moment!”
Inside the party, guests dined on delectable nibbles such as fresh-shucked oysters, lobster, and filet mignon and sipped wines from Far Niente and Nickel. My favorite was the 2019 Far Niente Cabernet Sauvignon. Chef’s kiss!
Walt Disney Television Chairman of Entertainment and fellow USC Trojan alum (Fight On!) Dana Walden kicked off the show and welcomed the crowd. And it wasn’t long before Thicke took to the stage, and even danced on top of his piano, belting out tunes such as “Lost Without U” and “Blurred Lines.” And the audience wasn’t shy to let their hair down and head to the front of the room, to boogie down by the stage.
Honorees Michael Thorn (President of Entertainment, FOX) and Rob Wade (President of Alternative Entertainment & Specials, FOX) were excited to receive their awards. “It was very humbling to be a part of the 25th Taste for a Cure honoring the most preeminent cancer centers in the world.” said Thorn. And Wade echoed his fellow honoree’s sentiments, “We’ve been able to learn about the countless lives they are saving, the incredible research they are doing, and that the amazing research that is passed around the globe, and the way that through the pandemic, they kept the work going. It’s really inspirational.”
