2010 GOLDEN GLOBES: A GOLDEN NIGHT IN HOLLYWOOD

Last night, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association awarded the 2010 Golden Globes at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills. Comedian and The Office creator Ricky Gervais hosted the night, and I personally would have loved to have seen more of him as he bantered about the “importance of actors” and other Hollywood related jabs. Rivaled in hilarity only by Robert Downey Jr.’s dry wit, sarcasm laden acceptance speech. Who knew RDJ was so damn funny? The evening wasn’t without it’s “precious” moments as Mo’Nique recalled during her acceptance speech for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture that she and her husband (Sidney Hicks) made a pact together at the age of 14 to one day be famous, and he supported her when she reached her goal by saying to her, “You first.” Another touching moment was when Best Actor in a TV Drama winner Michael C. Hall assumed the podium to speak while wearing a dark beanie and in effect, publicly displayed the last few months of his life as he has been undergoing treatment for Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. And Best Actress winner Sandra Bullock, while seemingly stunned at her win, graciously thanked those important to her while still keeping a smile on people’s faces with her natural humor.

After the awards had been presented, stars made their way to the various Moet champagne-fueled soirees around the Beverly Hilton. I almost got knocked over by Mariah Carey and her entourage making their way through the lobby of the Hilton. And yes, her globes were definitely out in full force. Work it, MC! Best Supporting Actress winner Mo’Nique graciously posed for photos with admirers and even let them hold her Golden Globe! Glee’s Lea Michele caused a major flash bulb frenzy while exiting the hotel, and Mike Tyson gave me a wink (and not a punch-yay!) as he strolled down the hallway with Hangover hottie Bradley Cooper, soon followed by Best Actor winner Robert Downey Jr. walking with wife Susan Downey. At the Weinstein fete at Bar 210 in the Bev Hilton, U2’s The Edge hung out by the bar (and I would have been stoked to see him whip out his guitar and strum a few out!), while nominee Penelope Cruz held court by the dance floor. Marion Cotillard and Daniel Day-Lewis posed for photos together, and Fergie and Josh Duhamel seemed every bit the couple in love as they continually whispered in each other’s ears. An energetic and bubbly Kate Hudson sang and danced to Prince’s “Raspberry Beret” and Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban laughed with friends in the corner. Not the only couple in the room, BFF twosome and the impeccably dressed Tom Ford and gorgeous Julianne Moore cruised around the party arm in arm almost all night. As soon as Best Supporting Actor winner Christoph Waltz (Inglourious Basterds-and boy, did he deserve it!) entered the room, cheers were at a fever pitch, as Quentin Tarantino and Harvey Weinstein both offered their congratulations to the newly minted winner. New Moon’s Taylor Lautner scooted in and took a seat next to Quentin Tarantino where he remained most of the night. Diane Kruger mingled around the room with boyfriend Josh Jackson by her side and nominee Anna Kendrick was happy to receive supportive text messages from family and friends even though she didn’t win in her category.

And at the InStyle/Warner Bros. bash, Best Actor in a TV Drama winner and cancer survivor Michael C. Hall was lovingly supported by wife and Dexter co-star Jennifer Carpenter, Summit on the Summit climber Isabel Lucas looked happy and well rested after scaling Mt. Kilimanjaro, friends Cameron Diaz and Toni Collette posed for photogs while holding Toni’s Golden Globe for Best Actress in a TV Comedy or Musical, Hangover co-stars Heather Graham and Bradley Cooper hammed it up, Golden Globe winners Sandra Bullock and Robert Downey Jr. compared statues, Bryce Dallas Howard walked the Red Carpet with long dark locks, and Morgan Freeman, Molly Sims, Christian Slater, Kevin Bacon, and Kate Bosworth made their party rounds.
