Last night, I had the absolute pleasure of interviewing one of my all time favorite actresses-Shirley MacLaine-and her Bernie co-star, Jack Black, at the film’s premiere in Hollywood. The movie is based on the true life story of a small East Texas town funeral director named Bernie (Black) who befriends wealthy widow Marjorie Nugent (Maclaine) and later, ends up killing her and tries to cover up the crime. The comedy/crime/drama was written and directed by Richard Linklater (Dazed and Confused, School of Rock, Fast Food Nation) also stars Matthew McConaughey as the Danny Buck Davidson, the Panola County DA.
After chatting with Shirley and Jack, it is easy to see the chemistry they have with one another. And they let me in on exactly what they admired about one another and why Shirley is starting an Oscar campaign for Jack! Linklater also weighs in on why you should see this film. It opens in limited release on April 27, 2012. Go see it!
