River Phoenix’s final film, Dark Blood, has finally been finished after almost twenty years. It even has a premiere date-September 27th at the Netherlands Film Festival in Utrecht.
River was working on this movie at the time of his death-October 31, 1993-from an overdose of heroin, cocaine, and other drugs while in front of the Viper Room. He was only 23 years old. In the movie, he plays a character named “Boy” who lives on a nuclear testing site and prepares for the end of days. He meets another couple and become involved in a love triangle with the wife.
The Dutch director of the flick, George Sluizer, who also directed The Vanishing, was said to be in contact with the Phoenix family who supported the completion of the project. Until recently getting funding to finish his work, Sluzier had the footage locked away in a safe. Will you see this film when it is released?
