Last night was an empowering night for women as the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center presented its annual “An Evening with Women” soiree at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills. The star-studded event was produced by singer/songwriter Linda Perry and nightlife impresario, Brent Bolthouse. And who was there? The night’s headliners included Renee Zellweger (who donated one of her personal Carolina Herrera dresses to the silent auction), Gina Gershon (who admitted she had “a little bit of nerves” about her upcoming singing performance that night), Sarah Silverman fresh from the release of her new book, The Bedwetter, and classic girl group, Heart. Also in attendance was a brunette Pink who ducked in and out for photos, Kat Von D, 90210’s Anna-Lynne McCord, and Perry’s supportive girlfriend (and daughter of Cybill Shepard) Clementine Ford.

Since this event was all about girl power, the question to ask was “when do you feel the most empowered?” Kat Von D (who is coming out with her own album with her as lead vocals and a book) told me that she felt the most empowered “in my element-when I am doing tattoos.” The Wilson sisters (Ann & Nancy) from Heart mentioned to me that they both felt most empowered on “a live stage” and Ann jokingly added “When my 19 year old daughter listens to me!” They were also excited to perform an acoustic version of one their classics, “Barracuda,” as well as some new songs for the mostly female crowd. And speaking of Heart, event organizer Linda Perry was most looking forward to hearing “Dog & Butterfly,” while her girlfriend Clementine couldn’t wait to hear “Alone.”
