After watching the Oscars red carpet last night, a few observations come to mind. First, red was definitely the color of the night. Second, less is more. Third, if your dress looks like it can receive satellite signals or if it could be mistaken for a high school prom dress, better off leaving it at home. Here are my picks for the best/worst dressed of the Oscars 2011:
THE BEST
Jennifer Lawrence in Calvin Klein: This is my favorite look of the night-modern, sleek, and sexy. Love the loose, wavy hair and muted lip color.

Celine Dion in Armani Prive: I cannot believe this is Celine. She looks stunning and I am digging the hair and adore the dress.

Hailee Steinfeld in Marchesa: Hailee has officially sealed herself as a young fashionista. She consistently makes age-appropriate, fun choices for the red carpet. Not to mention, she helped to design this one of a kind Marchesa!

Jennifer Hudson in Atelier Versace: Love the tangerine color of this classic-looking dress. Hudson looks H-O-T!

Camilla Alves in Kaufman Franco: Beautiful, timeless, and sophisticated. Score for Camilla.

Scarlett Johansson in Dolce and Gabbana: Scarlett looks fantastic on Scarlett. Also, seriously digging the messy hair and gold-toned makeup.

Helen Mirren in Vivienne Westwood: She could show the younger girls a thing or 2. Total Oscars pinup.

Mandy Moore in Monique Llulier: I don’t think I have ever seen Mandy look better. The dress is gorgeous and I am a fan of her hair pulled back in a bun and her coral lips.

Penelope Cruz in L’Wren Scott: Yummy mummy! She looks incredible and totally at ease.

Rhea Durham in Naeem Khan: So chic and love the color of the flowy skirt and pattern on the bodice.

THE WORST (and I applaud them all for taking risks)
Melissa Leo in Marc Bouwer: Not a fan of the mixed metallic and lace. I feel that it ages her too. Her hairstyle is quite nice, though.

Marisa Tomei in Charles James: This dress looks like it was 2 different dresses sewn together-really mismatched.

Sharon Stone in Christian Dior: This overall look is too severe and Gothic. It definitely adds the illusion of years to her appearance.

Sunrise Coigney in Jean Paul Gaultier: Talk about 2 different looks. This dress conveys total confusion. Would have liked if it committed to the design on one side or the other.

Nicole Kidman in Christian Dior: I would love to see her in something that is more warming and less stark.

Susan Downey: The sheer sleeves ruin this for me, otherwise I would have liked it.

Amy Adams in L’Wren Scott: She looks too Vegas-y in the sequined number. Plus, the necklace looks out of place to me.

Cate Blanchett in Givenchy Couture: This one pains me because I respect Cate Blanchett very much as an actress. While I can appreciate the structure and fit of this gown, the yellow and pearl accents just don’t do it for me.
