STARS LET THEIR HAIR DOWN AT THE 22nd ANNUAL GOTHAM INDEPENDENT FILM AWARDS

This past Monday, independent film was feted at the 22nd annual Gotham Independent Film Awards at Cipriani Wall Street in NYC. Matt Damon, Marion Cotillard, David O. Russell, and philanthropist and Participant Media Founder Jeff Skoll were all honored with Career Tribute Awards. As I always say, this is one of my favorite awards shows of the year, as guests get to enjoy delish food and fantastic drinks like the Russian Standard Vodka Cocktails and Mionetto Prosecco while hobnobbing with Hollywood A-listers who also delighted in letting their hair down and knocking back a few.

The focus of the evening is almost everyone’s shared love of independent film. But that hardly meant that the night took on a serious tone. In fact, I would say the opposite. For example, the show opened with a video monologue from Jimmy Kimmel, in which the comedian ribbed one of his besties, Damon, in which the audience was hooting and hollering! And the Matt D. funnies didn’t stop there. While accepting his Career Tribute Award, the star of the upcoming Elysium (for which he shaved his head) joked to director David O. Russell about trying to track him down to work together,”You are a wolf and I am Sarah Palin in a helicopter!”

And I spoke with many of the celebs on the red carpet like Emily Blunt, Jack Black, Cotillard and Russell about everything from film-making to holiday plans, and even style! You know I would never skip that topic!

After the awards show wound down, guests headed over to the Andaz Wall Street for the post Gothams bash, which has been held there for the past three years in a row. Party-goers were treated to a candy and dessert bar (who doesn’t love that?) as well as a Russian Standard Vodka ice luge and photo booth, and Monster Energy beverages.

DJ Orion spun tunes from Rihanna and Beyonce at the packed soiree, which included The League’s Mark Duplass, who was celebrating his film, Your Sister’s Sister which won for Best Ensemble Performance and Girls star Alex Karpovsky.
