As soon as I walked into the Robert Rodriguez showroom this morning, I was instantly transfixed because so many beautiful pieces that caught my eye.
I was there to preview the Spring/Summer 2013 Collection which is absolutely gorgeous. In fact, I found many items in the collection that I wanted to take home-right away! I love his use of black and white and vibrant prints that are key elements throughout the upcoming collection. And probably the thing that sets Rodriguez apart from his contemporary cohorts is that extreme attention to detail, particularly on the backs of his dresses, the pleats of the miniskirts, and his use of contrasting patterns on the insides of his blazers. Most of the pieces are structured and painstakingly tailored to a tee, but there are a few looser tops and a cardi that are easily styled as more basic pieces.
And while we are talking jackets, there is one that is a complete show stopper. It comes in black or white, and the sleeves are studded with metal fringe that is made to look like nail heads. No accessories needed when wearing that one! There are matching miniskirts and tanks with the same embellishments, but definitely not to be worn together.
Some of the pieces has a very menswear-inspired feel to them, like the motorcycle trench, but certainly still felt feminine. What I really loved to was his raffia-infused fabric that he developed are is the perfect weight for the warmer months. My fave were the dress shorts made out of this material.
And now onto my Achilles heel, jewelry. You know that I am a complete jewelry junkie! And RR does a fantastic job of killing me with his designs! The piece I can’t live without? A gunmetal studded cuff that would make Wonder Woman cry. Seriously, it is amaze! In addition, it comes in matte black, which is tres chic. Also in this group were metallic sliver earrings, crystal collar necklaces, gold dog tags on long chains, and an assortment of cocktail rings. Basically, all of it is statement jewelry with high drama. And that’s the beauty of it! You will have to wait until Spring 2013 hits the stores before you can get your hands on these items, but in the meantime, you can shop RR’s current collection here.
