RED CARPET ROXY’S “RED ALERT” UPDATE-JULY 22, 2009

A Circus Elephant

A Circus Elephant

As you might be aware, I previously reported on allegations of animal cruelty and a lawsuit made by the ASPCA towards Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus. Just today, a video surfaced that shows trainers and staff of the self-proclaimed “Greatest Show on Earth” allegedly beating, striking, slapping the elephants (and some tigers) unnecessarily and unprovoked with painful instruments, and one employee is heard calling an elephant “a fat ass.” Apparently, this demonstrates the state of mind that some of these handlers have while working with the animals. This footage also displays the devastating effects that these actions have on the pachyderms, from incessant swaying to outright crying.

Of course, you can make your own judgment about the video, but it looks to be very alarming and doesn’t cast Ringling or their backers in a good light. I ask you to please boycott Ringling Bros. and choose another means of seeing animals whether it be on the National Geographic Channel, a natural preserve where animals are free to roam in their own habitat, or a place without the abuse of humans.
