Just this past week, I was introduced to a special organization called Last Chance for Animals dedicated to helping animals. Founded in 1984 by actor Chris DeRose, the organization originally opposed vivisection for animals (which it still does) and now attempts to spare animals from harm caused by humans in the form of scientific study, entertainment, clothing, and food. They also rescue animals that are on death row at local shelters and give them a second chance at finding a home and a new life and have a special investigative unit (SIU) which exposes injustices done to animals and reports them to local, state, and federal authorities. The information obtained in these investigations is also used to develop campaigns, conduct public outreach, and draft legislation which will ultimately protect animals.
