RED CARPET BEAUTY SECRETS: SculpSure®

We are in the midst of Hollywood’s most celebrated time of the year, Awards Season. This means that I, as an entertainment and style correspondent, will be hitting lots of red carpet events, fun parties, and champagne-soaked dinners all in preparation for Tinseltown’s biggest night, The Academy Awards. And you probably have noticed all of the gorgeous actresses making their way down the red carpet wearing body-skimming gowns, cut out dresses, and other designer pieces that leave little to the imagination. Their toned bodies look perfect under the clothes, even after having babies. It might make you wonder how some of them look the way they do. So as Awards Season was quickly approaching, and because I will be hosting so many red carpets and interviewing celebrities at exclusive events this season, I was asked to try one of the most popular methods that Hollywood stars use for eliminating fat and body contouring: SculpSure.

Before we chat treatments, allow me to switch gears for a moment.  I’m a mom, which is the greatest job in the world. It has brought me so many blessings  –my beautiful daughter – and motherhood has also taught me to be much more patient, kind, and to not be such a control freak. But the process of being pregnant and gaining weight wasn’t so great for my physique. I managed to come out of delivering a baby with no stretch marks, thankfully, but I was left with loose skin and a thicker middle. I finally had to come to the realization that my stomach had changed forever, and no matter what, I was probably never going to have a perfectly flat belly again.

And so, as many moms will attest, I was ready to try anything to regain my pre-baby body, which is why I was so eager to try SculpSure in order to see if I could get a flatter tummy.

So, what is this starlet (and leading male) treatment?  SculpSure is the world’s first light-based body contouring system that permanently destroys fat cells in the treated area in just 25-minutes (multiple treatments may be required based on the patient’s starting point and goal).

According to Dr. Jaime Schwartz, Director Of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at The Roxbury Institute in Beverly Hills, “The ideal candidate for SculpSure is someone who is in good shape but has stubborn areas of fat.” He continued, “Most patients can expect to see up to a 24% reduction in the treated area within six to twelve weeks.”

Intrigued, I met with Dr. Schwartz for my very own treatment. Before having the procedure, I had a personal consultation with Dr. Schwartz who graciously answered all of my questions about the treatment and the aftercare. The great news: unlike other treatments on the market, there’s no downtime at all with this non-invasive procedure. Hooray!

Basically what happened at my appointment was that I was connected to two machines with octopus-like applicators (each machine has four, and now he’s able to treat more areas in one session) that attached to a belt that was fitted around my waist. And then the machine was turned on. The first four minutes were easy, with a cooling burst of air directed onto my belly. But right at that four-minute mark, things started to warm up, fast… When I was on the right on the edge and felt like I couldn’t take it anymore, I would close my eyes and think, “You have to be in unforgiving red carpet gowns next month!” And just then the machine went into the cooling mode and brought me back from the point of no return. Phew! These alternating heating and cooling cycles went on for about 21 minutes (25 total if you count the ramp up stage) until the treatment was over. Then I flipped over onto my stomach where we tackled my flanks (aka love handles). And same as before, the belt and applicators were attached to my lower back and the treatment started. For me, the flank treatment was more tolerable than the tummy. And each patient’s experience is individual. According to Dr. Schwartz, most people report a deep warming sensation.  The treatment lasted 25 minutes on the love handles as well, with the same alternating heating and cooling cycles.

Post-treatment, I had a little bit of swelling (which is normal) that subsided. And I was a little bit sore, like I had done 100 crunches at the gym. But other than that, absolutely no negative side effects.

I have had two treatments, spaced six weeks apart, and I can definitely see positive results. My stomach is flatter than before, and I have less fat, in general, in my abdominal region. Also, I look more contoured in my mid-section, which is good when I wear body-conscious dresses on the red carpet. And speaking of the red carpet, celebrities love this treatment because it is non-invasive and there is no downtime. After twelve weeks, I have seen the full results of the treatment and am very happy. I am excited this happened so fast and without surgery!
