In the wake of the recent devastating tornadoes in Oklahoma, not only were humans severely impacted by the trauma, but animals were as well. Many pets were displaced, injured and killed by these weather events.

Senators Barbara Boxer (D-CA) and David Vitter (R-LA) are asking their fellow US Senators to co-sign a letter that would help to protect animal welfare laws in our country. The laws directly affected by this include: Animal Welfare Act, The Animal Fighting Prohibition Act, The Humane Methods of Slaughter Act, and The Horse Protection Act. The letter will be submitted to the Senate Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee for protection consideration.

In an effort to stop some of the worst animal welfare violations when it comes to puppy mills, Senators Dick Durbin, D-Ill., and David Vitter, R-La., and Representatives Jim Gerlach, R-Pa., Sam Farr, D-Calif., Bill Young, R-Fla., and Lois Capps, D-Calif.-have introduced the PUPS Act.
