NOVEMBER IS ADOPT A SENIOR PET MONTH

I love November! For starters, it is Fall, the weather is cooler and it’s almost Thanksgiving. But November also marks Adopt a Senior Pet Month. And now is the perfect time to adopt an older dog, cat, rabbit, horse or any other pet you desire. But why adopt a senior? There are so many great reasons why it is a good idea to take in an older pet.

Senior Dog

He/She is usually housebroken.

He/She can be calmer that a rambunctious puppy or kitten.

He/She may have lived with someone in the past, so the pet might be more used to other animals and/or children.

There is a good chance that he/she may know commands like sit, stay, rollover.

Most likely, he/she has grown out of their younger destructive phase.

You are probably saving a life since they aren’t in high demand at over-crowded animal shelters.

He/She can be a total cuddler!

And don’t think that senior means dying. Lots of senior pets love to swim, hike, run and play too. I have a senior dog who is so playful with her furry brother and sister, but also loves to nap and have quiet time. She is so patient and loving towards my daughter. And my baby cannot get enough of her!

The Senior Dogs Project is an amazing organization dedicated to helping find safe, loving homes for older dogs. Also, Petfinder has a special guide for adopting senior pets. Please consider an older pet. They have so much love to give.
