As expected, the Michael Jackson “This Is It” premiere last night drew huge crowds not only in Los Angeles, but also in the 18 other countries where it was shown. There was dancing in the street in front of the Regal E-Walk in New York, complete with fans and Michael Jackson impersonators, and in Los Angeles at the Nokia Theater stars like Jackson’s brothers-Jermaine, Tito, Marlon, and Jackie-Paris Hilton, Will Smith, Jennifer Lopez, Katy Perry, director Kenny Ortega, Paula Abdul, Ashley Tisdale, Lou Ferrigno, singer Macy Gray, American Idol runner up Adam Lambert, and Jennifer Love Hewitt who arrived with her beau Jamie Kennedy, came out in support of the film. In London, Peter Andre and Mel B attended the British premiere at Leicester Square Odeon West End Cinema. And at the Times Square Regal Theater in NYC, Oprah bff Gayle King, hip hop royalty Russell Simmons, Spike Lee, and Ice-T honored their fallen friend. There were also celebrations in Brazil, China, South Africa, and Indonesia.
A feature in the movie which was quite popular among viewers last night was Jackson giving his dancers instructions on how to do some of his famous dance moves like the Moonwalk and dances from “Beat It,” “Smooth Criminal,” “Billie Jean,” and quite possibly the most famous of all, “Thriller,” as they watched in awe and of their idol. Also, MJ was always courteous and loving towards his crew on the film when correcting them by saying he was doing so out of “love” and telling them “God Bless.” Long live the King of Pop.
