GIORGIO ARMANI PRIVE FALL 2011 COLLECTION: BIG IN JAPAN

As I sit here typing this while ogling over the Giorgio Armani PriveFall 2011 Couture Collection, I can’t help but hear that song “Big in Japan” by Alphaville playing over and over in my head. That’s because this collection is highly influenced by all things Japan-from the orgami-like folds in the clothes to thick belts that a geisha might wear.

But make no mistake, this collection is anything but traditional. In fact, it is quite beautiful in the way that Armani has paid homage to the tsunami-ravaged country.聽The prints were absolutely exquisite-cherry blossoms and pastels. Ankle-length trousers were also used in the collection, as were long skirts, which are are still extremely popular. What was quite unusual, but worked well, was the addition of the Phillip Treacy hat to each look, which added even more structure and a pop of modernism.

The final looks were full of drama, which mixed beading with long, sleek silhouettes and various pops of color.

Eye makeup was based off of an orange color palette and steely gray shadow. Pale pinks lips and bare cheeks complemented the strong eyes, and hair was swept up to the top of the head and tucked under a high ponytail.

As far celebrity attendees, Katie Holmes, Olivia Palermo, and Cate Blanchett (decked in a beautiful, red 3/4 sleeve Armani cocktail dress) all enjoyed the presentation.
