FAIRYTALES IN AUSTRIA FOR CHANEL METIERS D’ARTS FASHION SHOW

Leave it to Chanel to regale the world with a fashion show equally as decadent as the castle in which it takes place. Chanel’s legendary biannual Métiers d’ Arts fashion show just took place in Salzburg, Austria. And for all those people who didn’t believe fairytales in their youth, I think we found the castle where they all took place, with famed romantic architecture and a view of Lake Leopoldskroner Weiher to boot. The show already garners a certain reputation for over-the-top extravagance, and Karl Lagerfeld did not disappoint. Against the rococo backdrop of the Schloss Leopoldskron Castle, models walked amongst the stucco artwork in clothes that harkened back to every tactile, ostentatious European fashion trend. Cue the wide sleeves, frills, leather, lace, pleats, gilded eye make-up, oversized accessories, and footwear that was anything but practical. And, appropriately, lederhosen got their fair share of the spotlight.

Lagerfeld wasn’t alone in his sartorial venture. Stella Tennant, Lara Stone, and Lindsay Wixson were among the other models that helped showcase this year’s styles, but people seemed pretty intent on two participants in particular. Condolences to Victoria’s Secret and all their angels at the fashion show in London, but this year Chanel co-opted two of the biggest models of the moment for their own show. Kendall Jenner and Cara Delevingne joined forces with Lagerfeld and his ensemble cast of top models to show us what this year’s collection is all about.

Let’s face it: it’s Lagerfeld’s fantasy world and we’re all just living in it.
