Last night it was all about the dogs at the 80’s themed 2009 Lint Roller Party for Best Friends Animal Society held at the historic Hollywood Palladium.  Small dogs, big dogs, and even those in between strutted down the Red Carpet with their owners in tow as they paused to bark at the cameras and sniff each other out. Grey’s Anatomy star Katherine Heigl, who serves as this year’s honorary chair, was also an Award Recipient and the famed 80’s band, The Bangles, took guests back to the decade when they were the top of the charts.

The goal of Best Friends Animal Society, celebrating 25 years of saving the lives of animals, is “to make no more homeless pets a reality in our lifetime” and they are tirelessly working towards this dream by taking in unwanted, neglected, abused, lame, handicapped, or ill animals including dogs, cats, horses, pigs, bunnies, and others and give them a safe, loving place to stay on their journey to finding a forever home. But even if they don’t find homes with the outside world, they can find security in the fact that they will always be able to stay at Best Friends Animal Society in Utah where on any given day there are up to 1,700 animals residents.

At the party, actress Anna Faris happily nuzzled with a dachshund while smiling for the flashes, while Amy Smart chatted with other guests, including Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. The Office star Phyllis Smith recounted to me about how her rescued kitty named Eddie is bilingual and understands when she sings to him in Spanish! Smart cat! She also let me in on a little Office dirt-that her character, Phyllis Vance “will go head to head with Michael (played by funnyman Steve Carrell ) and I will steal his thunder in the Christmas episode.” Interesting. Emmy winner Ken Howard was a proud puppy papa as he strolled down the red carpet with 2 fur babies in tow-including his dog Harley who he adopted at the Lint Roller Party last year. House’s Lisa Edelstein couldn’t have been happier about helping out her friends at Best Friends Animal Society, which she has done for the past 13 years and has even shot a fund raising DVD at their property in Utah. Finally, Tia Carrere mentioned to me that her Lady and the Tramp loving daughter has put in her 2 cents about a new family pet, saying, “Mommy, I want a puppy!” Also, Tia, a Dancing With the Stars alum, did share with me her early predicted winner for DWTS this season-Iron Chef host Mark Decascos-reassuring, “He is a fighter, knows choreography and is agile.” Look for Tia next in a movie she co-wrote with her hubby called Wave Dancer, filmed in her native Hawaii, about a female champion long board surfer battling breast cancer and given only a few months to live.
