9/11 110 STORIES TRIBUTE

There is so much going on in NYC right now-Fashion Week, U.S. Open, and of course, the 10th Anniversary since September 11, 2001. And last night I attended a very moving tribute to the victims and survivors of 9/11 called “110 Stories.” It was a limited-run, staged reading that benefited the New York Says Thank You Foundation. The all-star cast included Kathleen Turner, Samuel L. Jackson, Melissa Leo, Katie Holmes, Ben Vereen, Mario Cantone, Jeremy Piven, Tony Shaloub, Cynthia Nixon, Ralph Macchio, Stephen Baldwin, Noah Emmerich, and several others. Each actor took a turn reading the stories of a real-life 9/11 heroes-police men, firefighters, iron workers, a doctor, EMT’s, a priest, and volunteers.

Delving into great detail, these heart-wrenching accounts described the entire day and those immediately after. Pictures of victims, survivors, and the mass destruction were projected above the stage throughout the reading. People in the audience were audibly moved, not holding back tears and sniffles. But there were funny moments in the program, like Cantone playing a chiropractor during the rescue efforts trying to convince the big, burly firemen to take him up on his services. You can only imagine! Turner concluded the readings with a poignant message, “Pray for peace.” As we all should. What will you do to honor those lost on 9/11?
